Beauty in the Beast

There is an animal that nests in rivers around the world. This animal is considered to be weird, awkward, and ugly. It is no other than the Platypus. The Platypus's remarkable appearance resembles a fused beaver and duck. An artist I know that can capture that awkwardness of the Platypus and make it beautiful is Maria Molko. Maria is inspired by anything weird and beautiful, which stands out of the crowed such as the Platypus. Other artist from whom Maria gets inspiration are Guy Bourdin, Ellen Von Unwerth, Tim Walker, David Lynch, and Hitchcock Almodovar to name a few.
Maria's art form is photography, which came along at a very late stage in her life after experimenting with various media. Her choice of photography genre is fashion photography, still having respect for the other genres. Maria’s secrets to perfecting her art is imagination, passion, and determination to get better and better each time. The competitive nature of the fashion industry also drives her to do the best at what she does.
Maria says one of the hardest parts of her life was moving from Greece, a small country in the Mediterranean, not knowing at first what she wanted to do, to the United Kingdom now doing what she loves. In fact, she studies fashion photography at the University of the Art in London. She said "It was hard at first and still is, but I love every moment of it".
Maria’s most recent favorite fashion moments was Meisel editorial for Vogue Italia "water and oil". She says "It’s very controversial; with its shocking beauty shot with a strong concept behind it, love it!"
Over all Maria Molko is a beautiful person who believes the world is beautiful with its flaws and all. Capturing it all with her camera. Showing that everything in the world is not always called for change, but sometimes you have to look deeper for the beauty behind the horror.
